A salt cell (or electrolytic cell) is the primary component of a salt chlorine generator system used to sanitize swimming pools and spas . Instead of requiring the manual addition of conventional chlorine, the salt cell automatically converts ordinary salt (sodium chloride) in the water into a pure form of chlorine through a process called electrolysis.
